Oh and PS:

....Miss Lady was FIERCE....

44

Well I've had a lump in my throat for about the last 45 minutes, how bout you?

I watched Obama get sworn in, stumbling over the precious words that were the Presidential Oath. Michelle Obama proudly (as always) beaming at her husband with admiration. The entire crowed silent, standing in the 30 degree temperatures of DC with wide smiles on their faces.

As much as I'd like to insert crude humor here, I'm totally glowing right now. Obama's speech was amazing. And even from the freezing cold, crowded streets of Times Square the emotions were unanimous with awe. I've never heard Time Square so quiet.

People stopped in the middle of the sidewalk to gaze up at one
of the many big screens that hang above Time Square.

Inaugural Masturbation

I'll be the first to admit, that I am totally dazzled by President-to-be Barack Obama. I think he's a cool ass dude and an excellent example to all of us (side from the smoking addiction). Here we are, at the dawn of a new era about to see the very first black man in history to ever become president of the US. I'm proud to have voted for him and proud to be able to tell my children one day that I was "there".

That being said.

There is WAY to much inaugural shit going on. Everyone is getting in on the action. Theres a billion concerts, parties, tee-shirts, photography exhibits, live broadcasts, and comic books. Obama's old 300 is on sale on ebay...and let me tell you....the Chrysler 300 is a roaring piece of crap...so good luck to whoever buys that thing.

This seems like the story of the chick who spends all her time and effort primping for her wedding day...she spends her life's savings on a dress she'll wear once, she fusses over her flowers and the hue of the seat cushions for the reception....and doesn't realize her fiance is screwing the maid of honor.

I mean, I think Obama will be an awesome president....but I think at some point people will have to un-Jesus-ify him and bring the expectations for his administration back down to earth. What happens when Obama has to make one of those "you can't please everyone" tough decisions..? Will people turn on him because he can't make water into wine?

I'm glad everyone is as excited as I am to have him in office. But once the nostalgia wears off I wonder if people will still be such active supporters..? I sure hope so.

...And So It Begins

Almost a month away is the official inauguration of President-Elect Obama, and my very own people are already nit-picking at him about his choice of invocation speaker, Rick Warren. Rick Warren is a pastor who although quite the liberal in other areas, is sternly opposed to same-sex marriage. Being that he is a religious man (to say the least) OF COURSE he's opposed to it...hello?

By "my people" of course I don't mean, the LGBT community, although some of my favorite people in the world are of that community...I mean Californians. Yes, we suffered a blow to our human rights, when among the excitement of our first Black President elect, the unsightly Proposition 8 (or "Prop H8 as it's widely referred) was passed which supported the ban on all same-sex marriages in the state. However, we all voted for a man, Obama, who not once denied his feelings regarding same-sex marriages. Politically he has supported same-sex couples and their fight for equal marital rights, however he has said several times that personally he is opposed to the idea.

So whats wrong with that? He is a public figure but also just a man. A man with opinions, thoughts and ideals that might not always revolve around what America wants as a majority (or a minority). I'm sure he supports the non-smoking laws, although he is a 20 year pack-a-day smoker. These are things we must accept when we elect a human being into office. He'll do human shit.

Aside from that point, the inauguration is not just for the American people, it's for the Obamas. It's like a person's wedding day, in that it should reflect who you are. I am a strong supporter of equal human rights, and I voted against Prop H8, but that doesn't mean I oppose people with opposite views. This is America, and we can't be upset just because someone doesn't have the same personal beliefs as we do. As long as Obama politically supports LGBT marital rights and does not oppose it, that's good enough for me. It's California we should be upset with, not our gleaming Prez Obama.

Just my opinion.

Proposition H8

Proposition 8- the ban of gay and lesbian marriage- has passed in California and the sacred bond of union is now "safely" back into the hands of male/female couples who so clearly keep to it's tender meaning...

Like these people:

There is nothing wrong with believing that marriage should be kept between a man and a woman. But there IS something wrong with taking away the right for people to make that choice for themselves.

An Awesome Day for Women!

Obama's victory over McCain didn't just usher in our first "global" president and our first Black president. It ushered in our first Pro-Choice president in 8 years! Hoo-ray for women's health!!

The After Glow

I'm feeling awfully patriotic today....and for someone who is NOT patriotic, that's a pretty astounding feat.

History Has Been Made

We not only have the first Black President....
We also have a just plain fucking awesome President.

A "Throw Back" If You Will

In honor of today's election, I am re-posting a post from June that I wrote about my thoughts of Obama running for Prez.

Happy Vote Day!!!!

Hello November...

Being so far away from "home" always feels worse when things get a little crumby. Like when some loser fuck-tard steals your debit card info and decides for go on a $27 shopping spree. I'm sure my cell phone bill money went MILES for those Nazi bastards (anyone rude is a Nazi, that's just how I see the world). It just feels more like a Monday when my family is all the way in California and my sweetie is all the way in Houston.

My room mate Monica and I are planning to have our own little sad version of Thanksgiving this month. With the prices of airfare shooting through the roof and neither of our families being "holiday-people", we have opted to save our money and make a feast of our own. We'll probably make some concoction from my favorite Caribbean cookbook, and have a big bottle of wine. We'll sit on pillows on the floor and listen to Shiny Toy Guns before heading out on the town. It will definitely mark my most unorthodox Thanksgiving I've ever had, but none the less it will be memorable I'm sure.

With my next visit to D a do-able 18 days away and the historical election in less than 24 hours, there is much to look forward to. In the mean time, I'm grateful that hot coffee is available to keep my frosty fingers company. I look forward to the leaves in New York continuing to amaze me with their slow transformation into golden brown and sappy red. I look forward to the snow that will surely come, and to it's tight encumbered crunching under my feet. And for the things to come after the new year.

Why Does This Never Happen to Me???

Sara Jessica Parker volunteered at Barack Obama's NYC headquarters today calling undecided voters.... I would literally UN-VOTE just so SJP could call me.

We would, of course, become best friends.

Sick Sad World (a skeptical review of the times)

Anyone remember that old MTV show, Daria...you know...right before they started flooding every one's lives with "reality" TV? My generation was almost at it's point of no return with MTV, save for the obsession with the one ray of hope, the single item on their roster that came even close to baring truth to the teen experience (at least the teen experience of my day). Daria simply rocked.

Remember on Daria the show that always came on she and her friends would watch with a glazed look over their faces, 'Sick, Sad World'? The show that mocked all shows, and seemed to be the biggest over-statement of the entertainment world, at least at the time (late 90's). Well, take a look around...we're living in it. The obscene following of mediocre, food-deprived pop stars, the matter-of-fact attitude towards hard core drug use (why do people still book Amy Winehouse??), the disgusting insult to every one's intelligence that is called "commercial advertisement"...is it just me or has the REAL world (the actual world, not the "reality" show) become it's own caricature???

Maybe this is "growing up", the diapers coming off so to speak. The second coming of mental development, when my sensory perception once again changes and I look around to find that I wasn't REALLY seeing anything before. Because of this, I can laugh it all off. I can laugh off the fact that HONESTLY come November we get to choose between a half-dead vet. and a moose-killing insane person or a president who, lets all face it...has a higher chance of being assassinated then all the Kennedys combined (God forbid). I can laugh off the fact that the only television I can stand these days are old re-runs of the Mary Tyler Moore Show- live streamed, sexless and commercial free. I can also laugh off the fact that whether it be the second coming of Christ, a massive hydrogen bomb or good ole' green house gases; we are all probably going to see the end of the world much sooner than we should.

Happy Hump Day!!

Full of Unevents

Lately I've been pretty mopey. Not sure why, but every day I wake up totally spent and every night I come home and lazily sprawl out on my bed, which is usually scattered with the clothes I stripped off the night before. I fall asleep in a mass of mess and generally don't want to be bothered by anyone but D for the rest of the evening.

But today, I feel a surge of energy. I feel the need to get my ass out and do something. If I'm going to be up nights and tired in the morning, I might as well be tired for a good reason. So tomorrow night, I plan on hitting up the Mansion to watch the debate with fellow Obama-supporters and rub 'bows' with some local celebs. Info will be posted on FUXfashion for all those interested. I know the way I've been feeling lately (emotionally close to "home" and missing D so very much) has been taking it's toll, and going out will only remind me just how far away from my honey I actually am and how much I'd rather be rooting on Obama with him by my side; both of us quietly mocking Palin's passive, Alaskan stupidity and McCain's oddly stiff arms. Until then, I'll settle for a few NYC friends and a strong hearty shot of Grey Goose.

New Celebrity Couple: McPalin!!

There's a new celebrity couple in the house, and lets all pray it's not the White House. The newest revelations from the Republican party Vice President choice astounded all of us, I'm sure. Especially when we are faced with the ice-cold reality that Palin could stand to take over the Oval Office if McCain's old, rickety, 72-year old ass dies during his run. Of course, he says he knew all along that she was the brand new mother of a 5-month old baby with down syndrome, the grandmother of an unborn, illegitimate child to her under AGE daughter, wife to a man formally charged with a DUI and let's not forget the fact that she is strongly and verbally pro-life.

Perhaps that was McCain's intention. Maybe his campaign's comments about Obama being the "biggest celebrity in the world" have back fired so much so that he feels the need to compete. Instead of presenting a better policy and approachable front (like Obama) he, instead is going for the trashy tabloid ploy. There is no arguing; he's definitely grabbing headlines.

Personally, I'm scared shitless that this Palin person could actually be in office. Even with Obama's tremendous Messiah-like following, we all remember the shock and amazement that befell the last election when Bush was once again elected for another 4 years. Although that, we all know, was a unfavorably fixed race no doubt. Imagine a world where Obama goes back to being a senator, Michelle goes back to UCH medical and America is once again ran by the usually unsuccessful republican party. Free and low cost clinics will no doubt go under without the financial backing they so desperately need, and I'm sure Palin will be pleased as more and more young girls become young mothers due to the lack of sexual education and health care options. I'm sure she'll prance around and continue claiming to be a feminist (a former beauty pageant contestant and winner....who is claiming to be a feminist...give me a break). The war will continue and escalate into WWIII to every one's anticipation. McCain has less than a decade and a half left on this planet according to life expectancy statistics, so what does he care about America's future? Between his old age politics and Palin's ignoramus belief that the breakdown in our ecosystem has nothing to do with human actions, we'll all be living in an over populated, war torn country toting gas-masks to work every day. And lets not forget Palin's poor little 5-month old baby who will surely go without it's mother, because she doesn't find it necessary to actually raise her children...which would explain why her daughter is knocked up before finishing high school.

Is this what we've come to? This is the possible future of our country? An elderly, white haired man and a neglectful mother of 5, who doesn't even think rape victims deserve the right to have an abortion. Critics can pick Obama apart all day long. From his lack of experience to his soft approach towards the war; but he still comes out smelling like a rose. A devoted family man, and loving husband and a citizen of the United States who like everyone else just wants to see a change. Someone who can implement it, and at least presents the idea of thinking differently. The comparison is like night and day and far beyond black and white. Even if you never have, and have never wanted to. Even if you don't believe in it, or don't have the time. VOTE, and vote wisely.
